2017 Recommendations
Rohini Khillan
Office of Disability, Aging and Long-Term Care Policy
HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation
2016 Recommendations
- Compiled by the three subcommittees (Research, Clinical Care, and Long-Term Services and Supports)
- Recommendations were voted on by all the non-federal members at the April 2016 Meeting
- Recommendations were sent to the Secretary and Congress in late May
- Total of 12 Recommendations
- Subcommittee chairs wrote a brief overview, summarizing major points of recommendations
- First page listed the 12 main recommendations
- Subsequent appendix broke down the 12 recommendations into more specific points and actions
2016 Plan Update
- 2016 recommendations were included as an appendix in the Plan update, along with a detailed, formal response from federal agencies
- 2017 Plan will do the same, but with clear indication that it is only the federal response (rather than everyone's responses)
- We will work on a comments page for just the recommendations to encourage other groups to provide responses
Things to Consider
- Be bold and ambitous
- Think of efforts across federal, state, local and private sectors
- Continue to be focused and clear -- Succinct is most helpful to the intended audience
- Categorization:
- Funding
- Policy change (changes or refocus of existing programs, HHS-level)
- Legislative change Suggestions for states/localities to pursue (increases National focus)
- Private Sector work
