Friday, February 3, 2017

Printer Friendly Version in PDF Format (3 PDF pages)

2017 Recommendations

Rohini Khillan
Office of Disability, Aging and Long-Term Care Policy
HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation

2016 Recommendations

  • Compiled by the three subcommittees (Research, Clinical Care, and Long-Term Services and Supports)
  • Recommendations were voted on by all the non-federal members at the April 2016 Meeting
  • Recommendations were sent to the Secretary and Congress in late May
  • Total of 12 Recommendations
  • Subcommittee chairs wrote a brief overview, summarizing major points of recommendations
  • First page listed the 12 main recommendations
  • Subsequent appendix broke down the 12 recommendations into more specific points and actions

2016 Plan Update

  • 2016 recommendations were included as an appendix in the Plan update, along with a detailed, formal response from federal agencies
  • 2017 Plan will do the same, but with clear indication that it is only the federal response (rather than everyone's responses)
  • We will work on a comments page for just the recommendations to encourage other groups to provide responses

Things to Consider

  • Be bold and ambitous
  • Think of efforts across federal, state, local and private sectors
  • Continue to be focused and clear -- Succinct is most helpful to the intended audience
  • Categorization:
    • Funding
    • Policy change (changes or refocus of existing programs, HHS-level)
    • Legislative change Suggestions for states/localities to pursue (increases National focus)
    • Private Sector work
