Building on a previously funded OS-PCORTF initiative, this project piloted a new maternal mental health use case for the Longitudinal Maternal & Child Health Information for Research Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources® (FHIR) Implementation Guide. The pilot focused on mothers experiencing depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or psychosis during pregnancy and the postpartum period, as well as associated infant outcomes. Working with CyncHealth, Nebraska’s health information exchange (HIE), the use case was tested in a real-world setting, translating standards-based specifications into practical data extraction methods. The pilot generated valuable lessons related to data governance, HIE technical capacity, and mother-infant record linkage, providing a roadmap for strengthening standards and supporting future implementation.
