Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

Evidence-based Practice Center Program: Request for Feedback, February 2018 -- AHRQ Website Link
The Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Program at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has posted the proposed key questions for the systematic review on Treatment of Clinical Alzheimer's-type Dementia (CATD) and the Diagnosis of CATD and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). The purpose of the review is to examine the benefits, harms, and effectiveness of pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions in adults with clinical Alzheimer's-type dementia (CATD). And, to examine the accuracy and harms of tests used to diagnose mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or CATD. The key questions are the questions that we will seek answers to during the systematic review. Your feedback will help improve the relevance of our reviews for healthcare decision making. Please comment on the clarity, relevance, and usefulness of the key questions. All comments will be reviewed and considered. We value your feedback and look forward to receiving your comments.

Alzheimer's Disease Research Summit

Summit Information: March 2018 -- NIA Website Link
The 2018 Summit will build on the foundation laid by the NIH AD Research Summits held in 2012 and 2015. It will feature progress towards achieving the AD research implementation milestones and to continue the development of an integrated multidisciplinary research agenda necessary to enable precision medicine for AD. Key to achieving this goal is the identification of: 1) resources/infrastructure and multi-stakeholder partnerships necessary to successfully implement this research agenda and 2) strategies to engage patients, caregivers, and citizens as direct partners in research.

Eureka AD/ADRD Prize

IdeaScale Platform for Eureka AD/ADRD Prize Now Open -- NIA Website Link
NIA has just launched a public comment platform to engage a broader audience in a discussion to optimize our planning efforts for a Eureka prize competition. As individuals in the Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias (ADRD) communities are acutely aware, navigating the complex US healthcare system can be challenging for people living with these conditions and their caregivers. The NIA is currently planning a prize competition to spur innovation and improve care for people living with AD/ADRD, and we need your feedback to make this specific prize competition as impactful as possible.

Specifically, we are seeking feedback from the wider community -- including people with dementia, their family members, caregivers, researchers, advocates, clinicians, technology professionals, and the public -- about innovations that could improve care for people living with AD/ADRD through the creation of a widely accessible and innovative technology tool(s) that addresses unmet needs in care coordination and/or care navigation through the health system.

We are using the IdeaScale crowdsourcing platform to make it as easy as possible to add or build upon ideas about these questions. Please let us hear from you!

Visit our IdeaScale community to submit your own feedback and ideas, browse responses that have already been submitted, comment, and/or vote for your favorites. If you have any colleagues or other contacts who might have a good idea about this subject -- or just want to participate in the discussion -- please send them this link: http://bit.ly/ADprizeideas.

The deadline for comments is June 30, 2018, so please respond and share as soon as possible!

Healthy Aging Summit

Healthy Aging Summit: July 2018 -- ACPM Website Link
The 2018 Healthy Aging Summit goals are to explore the science on healthy aging, identify knowledge gaps, promote prevention, and support people aging in place and in their community. The Summit seeks broad participation by subject matter experts from diverse disciplines, provider types, and the public-private sectors.

Optimize Alzheimer's Research Participation Outreach Toolkit

Optimize Alzheimer's Research Participation Outreach Toolkit -- NIH Website Link
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) at NIH is seeking ideas from the wider community - advocates, clinicians, people with dementia, family members, caregivers, researchers, and site coordinators - about how to overcome barriers and optimize participation in Alzheimer's research.

Clinical trials and studies are critical to finding a treatment or cure for Alzheimer's disease. Yet efforts in many cases to engage participants in Alzheimer's research have not been able to keep pace with the need. The NIA, the lead federal agency in Alzheimer's research, convened this effort, joined by colleagues at the Alzheimer's Association, researchers, and others dedicated to trying to solve this problem.

How can you help? Go to NIA's IdeaScale community to browse ideas that have already been submitted, comment, vote for your favorites, and submit your own ideas. We are seeking ideas on how to optimize recruitment by building trusting relationships in local communities, raising national awareness about participation in studies, enhancing the capacity of study sites, tracking progress, and cultivating a science of recruitment.
