Experts on Advanced Dementia January 2014 Meeting

In accordance with The National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease: 2013 Update, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services contracted with the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to convene experts on advanced dementia. The experts will discuss and make suggestions about how providers, including primary care physicians and hospitals, should address patient-centered goals of care and care-related issues, such as infection management, feeding and nutrition problems, falls and injury prevention, transitional care and hospitalizations, and communication. The experts may also discuss models to improve care for persons with advanced dementia.

Fourteen individuals have been selected to participate in the first meeting of experts on advanced dementia, which will be held in Washington, DC on January 28, 2014. The 14 individuals are listed below

 

Public Attendance:  A limited number of additional persons will be able to attend the meeting on January 28, 2014, as public observers. Individuals who wish to attend should send an email to AdvancedDementiaMeeting@nas.edu with "January meeting" in the Subject line. You will receive a response from IOM

 

Two more meetings are being planned, but dates for those meetings have not yet been selected. Individuals who were nominated but not selected for the January 28, 2014 meeting will receive a notification from IOM asking them if they would like to be considered for these later meetings.
