Due to the increasing demand for homecare workers and the high rate of occupational injuries among these workers, addressing homecare worker safety is critically important. High injury rates among homecare workers contribute to turnover and absenteeism, and lead to high costs of workers’ compensation insurance for employers.

This report examines and assesses the often overlooked potential of assistive technology (AT) to benefit unpaid family caregivers who assist chronically disabled elders living at home. Although research has identified benefits, only a handful of publicly-funded family caregiver support programs give much attention to enabling caregivers’ access to AT.
