Despite the increasing evidence of high suicide rates and associated risk factors for older adults in the United States, the number of programs addressing these risk factors remains limited. In this project, researchers performed an environmental scan and convened a technical expert panel to identify existing and effective suicide prevention interventions, how these interventions can be expanded to the older adult population, and the barriers to tailoring existing programs to older adults.

This research was conducted under contract #HHSP233201500039I between HHS/ASPE’s Office of Behavioral Health, Disability, and Aging Policy (BHDAP) and Research Triangle Institute. Additional research in this area is available at the ASPE Behavioral Health page.
