This case study focuses on how the nonprofit statewide California WIC Association supports local agencies to involve fathers in programming related to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Key lessons and considerations for human services programs include:

The 2014 U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) final rule, “Food Labeling: Nutrition Labeling of Standard Menu Items in Restaurants and Similar Retail Food Establishments,” requires information on the calorie content of food items to be clearly displayed on menus.

Front-of-package (FOP) nutrition labeling systems are tools that can help consumers choose healthy diets consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. It is expected that consumers’ use of nutrition information when making food purchasing decisions will improve their dietary choices and result in their reduced risk of obesity and chronic diseases.

This case study describes the inception, development and implementation of the Health and Sustainability Guidelines for Federal Concessions and Vending Operations.
