Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, particularly those that use natural language processing (NLP), are becoming increasingly prominent in healthcare delivery. For these systems to operate safely and reliably in clinical settings, they require high-quality training datasets drawn from multiple sources, including electronic health record (EHR) data, that closely reflect real-world conditions.

This Issue Brief explores opportunities that technology-enabled care (TEC) offers to help meet patient and provider needs for high-valued coordinated care to improve health outcomes. It explores literature surrounding existing available TEC options, as well as economic and payment issues that influence whether this is taken up.

In this Report, we matched a sample of Part B drugs and biological products that had price changes between January 2011 and October 2023 with the FDA’s January 2023 list of drug shortages database. Then we analyzed price changes that occurred before and after the shortage, overall and by select drug characteristics of interest.

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in health care and health care research has stimulated discussion on the application of trustworthy principles for AI. This report summarizes 15 considerations and 14 opportunities for the implementation of HHS’s trustworthy AI principles in patient-centered outcomes research projects that incorporate AI technology.
