Nancy DeLew
Nancy joined ASPE in 2011 as the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Policy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at HHS. She serves as the senior career official in the Office of Health Policy where she leads a team who apply their skills in policy development, strategic planning, research, and evaluation to some of the Department’s most challenging health policy problems. She provides executive leadership and coordination on a broad range of health care financing, coverage, access, public health, and quality issues.
Prior to her service in ASPE, she held a variety of management positions in CMS including directing the policy team in the Office of Health Insurance Exchanges, the Deputy Director of the CMS Office of Legislation, and Director of the Special Analysis Staff. She has worked with the Congress on a number of major pieces of legislation over the course of her career including the Affordable Care Act in 2010, the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, and the Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act of 1988.
She joined the Department of Health and Human Services in 1985 as a Presidential Management Intern after receiving Master's degrees in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana.
