The goals of the study are to: define the issues related to providing care to children with AIDS; place parameters around the size and scope of the problem; and attempt to clarify some of the perceptions and approaches relevant to the problem. This project focuses on children with AIDS whose parents are, or have had sexual contact with, IV drug abusers. Their social service needs differ from the needs of the hemophilia and other blood transfusion populations. The study's focus is more on child welfare service problems, issues and needs than on medical treatment issues. However, the medical care system is intricately involved in providing both medical and social services to these children and, therefore, is included in this focus. [86 PDF pages]
