HHS Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Summit

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) hosted its first ever Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Summit on October 22, 2026, at the Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

During the Summit, HHS announced the release of the annual update of the National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias, which was restructured and revised in 2026.

In addition to releasing the annual update to the National Plan, the Summit also served as an opportunity for HHS to highlight ongoing work, discuss progress and future goals, and announce new initiatives. The Summit opened with remarks from HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr, other high-ranking HHS officials and U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL). The Summit also included caregiver perspectives, and two panels that reflected the overarching themes of the revised National Plan goals: Research and Innovation and Care and Services.

Like the restructuring of the National Plan, the Summit reaffirmed federal commitment to meeting the public health challenge of Alzheimer’s disease and affirmed that related dementias will receive the same commitment. It also provides stakeholders, partners, and people living with dementia and their families with an overview of the new approach HHS and partners plan to take over the next decade.
