This is the sixth in a series of data briefs based on the information collected from the buyers, non-buyers, and non-responders surveyed groups. The purpose of this brief is to answer three questions related to the purchase of the Federal LTC insurance program: (1) What are the characteristics associated with being a purchaser/enrollee in the Federal LTC insurance program? (2) Among those who purchase policies, what are the characteristics associated with the purchase of various levels of coverage, that is, more compared to less comprehensive coverage? (3) Among those who purchase policies, what are the characteristics associated with not having a full understanding of the policy purchased? Put another way, who are the buyers who do not fully understand major elements of the coverage that they purchased? Answering these questions is important from both a marketing and education perspective and can inform future strategies as the Federal Government continues to rollout the long-term care insurance program.
