Re: Request for Reconsideration submitted September 22, 2003

Dear Messrs. Kovaks and Hanneman:

I want to provide you with a status update regarding your request for appeal submitted under the NIH Information Quality Guidelines. These guidelines state that it is NIH's goal to respond to each request for reconsideration within 60 days of receipt either by providing a decision on the request or, if the request will require more than 60 days to complete, informing the complainant that more time is required.

NIH is preparing a response to your request but will require more time to coordinate Agency review of the response. We anticipate that a response providing the Agency's views will be forwarded to you within 45 days. Thank you for your interest in the quality if information disseminated by NIH. Should you have any questions, please contact me at 301-496-4461.

Sincerely,

John Burklow
Associate Director for Communications
