As parents move from welfare to work, they have increased needs for child care for their children. Most ASPE welfare outcomes grantees are collecting data on child care arrangements, primarily through survey data, but also, to some extent, through linkages to child care subsidy administrative data. Typical survey questions focus on the type of child care provider used, parents' awareness and use of subsidies, child care costs, and the parents' perceptions of child care quality.
