In January 2001, the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program, the largest employer-sponsored health insurance program in the Nation, instituted a mental health and substance abuse (MH/SA) parity policy in compliance with an earlier Presidential directive.

Demographic and Household Characteristics Employment Experiences and Earnings Education and Training

This report presents findings on the characteristics and employment barriers of families receiving TANF benefits in South Carolina's Family Independence (FI) Program.

In the study described in this report, the authors used the Medicaid Statistical Information System (MSIS) files to examine the use and costs of Medicaid services for beneficiaries with mental illness in one state (New Jersey). This report includes an overview of findings on service use and costs for beneficiaries with mental illness compared with services for other Medicaid beneficiaries.

This report clarifies the sources of the tension between providers and payers with regard to what personal information should be shared for patients receiving mental health or substance abuse treatment.
