Many summary systems place a cap on the amount of positive nutrients that factor into a food score to prevent excessive influence of positive nutrients. A strength of summary systems is that they do account for positive attributes to foods, as opposed to nutrient-specific systems that usually only include negative nutrients. A limitation of summary systems is that they may not be as useful as nutrient-specific systems for consumers interested in specific nutrients; however, that information is on the NFP. On the other hand, although the summary score or rating is based on the nutrient content of foods, summary systems may be beneficial for consumers who do not think about food in terms of specific nutrients.
