Persons With Mental Retardation and Related Conditions in Mental Retardation Facilities: Selected Findings from the 1987 National Medical Expenditure Survey. Part 4: Summary and Conclusions


This report has described the basic design, study limitations and initial findings from the 691 mental retardation facilities and 3,618 of their residents sampled in the Institutional Population Component of the National Medical Expenditure Survey. General aspects of the design and limitations of this study were described primarily in Part 1. Part 2 and Part 3 presented the basic statistics gathered in the study. The few concluding comments made here summarize some of the more important observations and implications regarding the design and key findings of the study.
