Nationwide, 23.2 million, or 56 percent, of the 41.3 million eligible uninsured may qualify for Medicaid, CHIP, or tax credits to purchase coverage for $100 or less per person per month. If all states expand their Medicaid programs, 78 percent of the 41.3 million eligible uninsured would qualify for Medicaid, CHIP, or tax credits to purchase coverage for $100 or less.6 For states that are expanding Medicaid, 76 percent of the uninsured eligible for Medicaid, CHIP or the Marketplaces will be able to pay $100 or less per person per month in premiums. In states not expanding Medicaid, 40 percent of the uninsured eligible for Medicaid, CHIP or the Marketplaces will be able to pay $100 or less per person per month in premiums.
