Researchers from ASPE, NORC, Washington University in St. Louis, Catholic Physicians’ Guild of San Antonio, and the U.S. Department of Labor published an article, “Federal Data for Conducting Patient-Centered Outcomes Research on Economic Outcomes,” in the journal Medical Care.

Patients and other stakeholders are increasingly interested in data on the economic burdens and impacts of healthcare choices, but an assessment of the coverage and gaps in federally funded data for patient-centered economic evaluations has not been produced to date. Featuring work funded by OS-PCORTF, this article identifies 29 federally funded sources of data on economic outcomes (including direct medical costs, direct non-medical costs, and indirect costs), as well as gaps in these data that might inform future federal priorities.
