An Evaluation of AoA's Program to Prevent Elder Abuse: Final Report

Publication Date

In 2012, AoA awarded 5 cooperative agreements to test elder abuse prevention interventions to: Alaska Division of Senior and Disabilities Services (AK DSDS); New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA); University of Southern California-Irvine, Program in Geriatrics (USC); University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC); and, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and WellMed Charitable Foundation (TX/WellMed). The interventions were diverse and focused on different types of abuse (e.g., self-neglect, financial exploitation, physical and emotional abuse) at different points of prevention (e.g., primary and secondary prevention) in different settings (e.g., at home, in healthcare settings). This report presents detailed information on the implementation of AoA's Program to Prevent Elder Abuse including the infrastructure in which the interventions were implemented, target populations, core components, and facilitators and barriers to implementation. Information on the intervention participants, characteristics of victims and at-risk elders, service utilization, and outcomes are presented. [116 PDF pages]
